Dear Parent,
The students at Bethlehem Children’s School are always laughing and smiling, loving to be in school and loving to learn. You can watch one student teach another the perfect cartwheel or see the middle-schoolers hold the kindergarteners up on the monkey bars.
From reading buddies, to our all-school Thanksgiving meal for 75 people, you can witness the openness between the students, teachers, and our extended school community. We learn cooperatively with each other. We strive to help students be the best they can be.
Students at BCS learn at their own pace and in time all achieve academic success. Many students have found a place to learn here. They find friendships across the age groups, fostering both mentors and protégé’s. Multi-age projects, like building stick forts in the schoolyard at recess, use the natural sense of play to develop problem-solving skills and learn through interacting with the natural world. Students learn to take care of each other, of their own learning abilities, of their environment and of humanity. We strive to participate and to create real life community service opportunities, developing relationships with our partners across the Capital District community.
The alumni of BCS have gone on to great things in their lives. The first graduates are all juniors in college around the country, and our more recent graduates all continue to succeed in a variety of high school settings, or prosper in their artistic field or chosen profession.
We don't participate in the New York State standardized testing program, but we do utilize the New York State standards in all of our curriculum planning. We take many meaningful field trips, which support our classroom programs and we make learning as real life as possible.
With 15 years of Growing up Green, BCS is well established for teaching the foundations of environmental sustainability. Students walk almost a mile each morning in the Healthy Start program, learn to grow vegetables and actively participate in taking care of the school and the grounds.
It's impossible to tell you all the great things about why you should choose Bethlehem Children's School for your child's education, but we certainly can show you. Come and visit us today and see for yourself. I look forward to talking with you.
